Episode 150: Defining Your Role – Solocast w/ Quinn Henoch

Omnipresent Exercise Prescription Process Auditor (OEPPA):

– Oh cool, you have a new athlete that you’re working with. What’s your specific role in their overall plan?

Well Meaning Physical Therapist (WMPT):

– I’m the Physical Therapist. I’ll be doing the Physical Therapy.

Omnipresent Exercise Prescription Process Auditor (OEPPA):

– That means nothing to me.

“Defining Your Role” is a foundational principle of our exercise prescription and overall planning for any athlete that we’re working with.

It’s not just repeating your professional title.

It’s also where a lot of athlete rehab plans go wrong from Day 1. Don’t be that provider. Listen to this episode.

Episode 149: Deep Dive into Exercise Programming, Planning, and Periodization

Quinn Henoch & Zak Gabor are back with another episode!  On this show, we tackle some topics around exercise prescription that we know you wrestle with too — how far out do we program for our rehabbing athletes? Is it different than an athlete training only for “performance”?  What does “periodization” really mean, and how do we balance being flexible enough with our programming to account for the volatility of rehab, while not losing sight of the big picture?  They discuss it all.

Episode 146: “Hey Can I Start Using Knee Wraps & Getting Dry Needling?”

Quinn Henoch & Zak Gabor are back with another episode!  The “Honey & Vinegar” segment makes its return, as Zak rants about what annoys him on social media, and Quinn calms the waters with a shout out to coaches and other providers who put their athletes first.

And then we talked about a couple of scenarios that were going on with their athletes that had to do with athletes posing the question of using external supports such as knee wraps during training and another about modalities, in this case dry needling. These discussions with athletes can be very fruitful, but also challenging, so we talk about that a bit here.

We hope you enjoy!

Episode 140: The Scaries of Rehab Forecasting, Predictions, & Timelines

On this episode Quinn Henoch and Zak Gabor talk about a really important topic — the best Ninendo 64 games of all time. We actually do talk about that, but also, we talk about timelines in rehab and communication with our athletes around forecasting and prediction of how rehab should go, how long it will take — all of the things that give us anxiety but that we address on a regular basis in our practice. What makes up our timeline predictions? And what happens if the original timelines that we communicated don’t match up with how the athlete’s rehab is actually going? We dig into all of that and more.

Episode 139: Demystifying Plyometrics w/ Matt McInnes Watson

On this episode we welcome an awesome guest — The Plyo guy himself and creator of Plusplyos Matt McInnes Watson. Matt is an absolute go-to resource for anything and everything regarding plyometrics, and has had a big influence on us and how we view these things within the Clinical Athlete community.  What the heck does “plyometric” even mean? How can we break down the barriers to entry for coaching, programming, and performing these movements? We cover it all with Matt, this was an absolute banger.

We hope you enjoy!

Episode 137: SoloCast — Clinical Athlete Diaries

It’s a Clinical Athlete Diary vibe.

When’s the last time you re-read a book or retook a course, instead of buying a new one? Hmm…

Also, you ever struggle with tracking your athlete’s symptoms in rehab? Or find it to be a slippery slope to have a goal be for them to have no more pain flare ups? Me too. Let’s talk about it all.

Episode 136: Overthinking ExRx

Ever found yourself getting stuck in paralysis by analysis with your exercise prescription?  Ugh.. amateur.. Just kidding! We’ve all felt it. You’re in luck —  on this show, Quinn Henoch and Zak Gabor dig into why that may happen and some practical approaches to getting past it and providing some baller programs to our athletes.

Episode 135: Tennis S&C Deepdive with Matt Kuzdub

On this show, Quinn Henoch and Zak Gabor welcome a special guest onto the show – Matt Kuzdub.  Matt is a tennis coach and a tennis strength & conditioning coach – and I’ll even frame that differently, that’s he’s just an awesome sport and S&C coach and the sport and athletes that he works with happen to be tennis players. He’s also Zak’s tennis and S&C coach and Matt is currently finishing up going through the Clinical Athlete Provider certification — which has been awesome for all of us because he’s already such a wealth of knowledge. So, we’re really excited to share this conversion with you — we discussed what shaped Matt’s current training philosophy, how he balances needing to help his athletes develop multiple qualities simultaneously in a sport without much of an off season, some myth busting and misconceptions in training tennis athletes, and much more.  It was an awesome conversation. We hope you enjoy

Episode 134: Busting The Mystique of ExRx

On this show, Quinn Henoch and Zak Gabor attempt to bust down the unnecessary mystique of exercise prescription. Have you ever felt like a topic is just out of reach or that you just don’t feel comfortable discussing or implementing with your athletes? Whether it be energy system development, plyometrics, change of direction – well, improving your confidence with any topic doesn’t have to be so daunting and intimidating – and hopefully after this episode you have some actionable takeaway to be able to start tackling your exrx bugaboos in a productive and fun way.

We hope you enjoy!
