Episode 83: Resilience with Nick Hannah



Be grateful, be kind, don’t judge and show compassion. This is what Nick is all about.

Nick Hannah, a physiotherapist out of Canada, shares his passion about resilience, empathy, and helping others on a deeper level.

The team chats with Nick about the publication written by Golnaz Tabibnia which dives into a neuroscience three-route approach to boosting resilience. Nick specifically focuses on down regulating the “default mode network”, or transcending the self from the tri-route model, which he focuses on to improve resiliency.

Judd is a PhD candidate, lecturer and researcher in exercise and sports science at the University of Technology Sydney, with a primary focus in Biomechanics. In this episode, he dives into load & injury management with the Clinical Athlete team. He speaks on what clinicians should take into consideration when using applied research to dictate their decision to decrease load with their athletes. He emphasizes the uncertainty of athletic injury and how clinicians and organizations need to embrace this more often!

Episode 77: Science to Practice: All Things Isometrics with Dustin Oranchuk



Yielding isometrics? Overcoming isometrics? Eccentric quasi isometrics? What do these look like, and how can they be applied in rehab and in training? PhD candidate Dustin Oranchuk is on the podcast this week to discuss these questions and so much more!

Dustin’s journey as a researcher in the field of Strength and Conditioning has taken him from Canada, to New Zealand, to Australia, and he’s been a part of publishing some fantastic literature along the way. Notably, he spearheaded a review paper titled “Isometric training and long‐term adaptations: Effects of muscle length, intensity, and intent: A systematic review” which has been a favorite of ours when it comes to putting isometric training into practice.

Dustin discusses this paper with the Clinical Athlete team, as well as some recent work regarding the effects eccentric quasi-isometrics, and future considerations when it comes to utilizing isometrics in training. Enjoy!
